The Fort Chipewyan Truth Scanning Project officially launched with the Information Gathering Session on March 31 and April 1, 2022. Together with our Elders and our leaders, our three Nations came together to exchange prayers, information and support.
We set out the process and purpose of our project by discussing the history of Residential Schools like Holy Angels, the Nations who have undertaken this process before us and the national impact that their findings have had. Representatives from Nunee Health Board informed the community about self-care and resources for support.
We were joined by Dr. Kisha Supernant, Director of the Institute of Prairie and Indigenous Archaeology (IPIA), whose team will be undertaking the scanning process around the school.
On day two, our community facilitated an emotional sharing circle for survivors to exchange memories and stories of their time at Holy Angels Indian Residential School. These stories will form the backbone of our search and guide the scanning process over the coming months.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
